Translucent Roof Systems

Featured on HGTV as one of the "Must Have Products for 2006" -- see the HGTV Video.

Our translucent roof systems from Centerpoint allow the rooms they cover to be bathed in a "natural light", allowing you to enjoy the many advantages of "real light" as opposed to artificially generated illumination. By filtering out ultraviolet rays and only allowing in museum quality light, you will find that our roofing systems impart the following benefits:

  • The system is a single unit that installs easily in just an hour or two. Compare that to the 50 hours required in a typical bump-out roof and it's easy to see how this roof can be a profitable and elegant addition for any builder.
  • Our system blends in aesthetically to the surrounding environment - both indoors and outdoors.
  • Our system allows indoor enjoyment of many of the events occurring outdoors or in a patio enclosure without the inconveniences of the outdoor environment. You have no bugs, no rain, and no wind to worry about. You'll get plenty of light in a bright and airy environment. The roof emits a soothing sound when it rains. And the room that the roof covers is never too hot or too cold. This roof brings the outdoors in.
  • Our roof makes an ordinary room appear more spacious, more open.
  • Our roof promotes a feeling of relaxation, eases tension.
  • You will be able to enjoy volumes of soft, natural light without compromise of privacy.

In recent history, artificial light has become the primary source of light in homes. By using the translucent roof system, you will find that natural light permeates multiple rooms in the house, giving it an inviting atmosphere.

Natural light reduces dependence on artificial light, providing energy savings. Most household activities can be done without the aid of additional artificial light. Soft natural light enhances eyesight, making reading and other household activities easier. No harsh glare on TV screens or computer monitors.

Quality Construction

Main frame construction is of heavy duty extruded aluminum. It holds up in the strongest weather. Aluminum frame members are wrapped in vinyl for an attractive finish and minimal energy loss. Poly roof panels are 1" thick multi-chambered sheets that resist heat loss by conduction. They have a heat reflective coating on the exterior that keeps the comfort in and the heat out.

  • Florida building products approval #FL2024
  • Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) = .18
  • U-Value = .33BTUs
  • Condensation Resistance Factor = 41

Also, a Centerpoint Translucent System is easy to maintain, with only occasional washing with mild soap and water. Individual panels may be repaired or replaced if ever needed. Roof panels are impact resistant to hail or golf balls and have a 10-year warranty against material defect.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is it?
CPTS is an innovative roof system designed to let soothing white museum quality light flood into your home.

What is it made from?
CPTS mainframe is made from heavy duty extruded aluminum and wrapped in maintenance free vinyl. The panels are made from polycarbonate and filled with “Nanogel.”

Polycarbonate?
Yes, multi-chambered polycarbonate sheet with a special heat guard co-extrusion layer on exterior surface. This polymer material is extremely tough, made to resist hail and heavy impacts. Most people don’t know that it is the same material seen in the cockpits of F-16 fighter jets.

What is “Nanogel?"
Nanogel was developed at a cost of over 100 million dollars by the Cabot Corporation. It is truly space age insulation, it insulates space suits for astronauts as they spacewalk. It once was silica sand, Cabot manipulated the grains to where each piece has 50,000 pockets of air in it, making it the lightest weight solid on Earth! When installed in a CPTS it will never lose its’ insulating abilities. It is permanently hydrophobic (water can’t touch it) so it will never foster the growth of mold.

How durable is this roof?
CPTS were designed for durability and ruggedness. They even carry FL#2024, the stamp of approval from the Florida Building Commission. They are tested to be strong and tough enough for the hurricane zones.

Will hail hurt it?
CPTS polycarbonate panels have been tested to meet all applicable residential codes for hail impact without denting the panels.

Does it leak?
Wouldn’t be much of a roof if it did. The design of the roof was done in conjunction with a major British conservatory manufacturer. They have literally thousands of roofs installed and are leak free. Should water find a way in we have designed a way to let it out. You and your belongings will stay dry.

Is it energy efficient?
CPTS are extremely efficient at stopping solar heat gain. The “solar heat gain coefficient” is .14. This makes the system roughly five time as efficient as a window. It just will not feel hot in the summertime. In the wintertime it is equally efficient and will feel warm. Because the interior polycarbonate surfaces can’t get cold like glass you will not experience a “drafty feeling” in the room. It simply provides year round comfort.

What is the warranty?
CPTS warrants the roof to be free from defect for a period of 10 years. A full warranty is available from Centerpoint Translucent Systems, Knoxville, TN.

OK, I like what I’ve heard, where can I use it in a home?
Almost anywhere, kitchens, baths, reading rooms, master suites, over bathtubs, dining rooms, garages, garden areas, gazebos, porches. Let your imagination soar as you bring a whole new light to your life. Enjoy!!
